Seventh-day Adventists believe that the Bible is to be taken as the infallible word of God, that it is the rule of faith and practice, that we are saved by grace through faith, that we are to keep the commandments of God as loving obedience to our creator.
The name Seventh-day Adventist stands for the fact that we follow the true 7th day Sabbath (starting at Friday night sunset and lasting to Saturday night Sunset), and we hold to the literal visible soon coming in the clouds of Jesus Christ (the Advent)
The short answer is that Sunday rest is no where found in scripture. Not one text in the Bible says that Sunday is God’s Holy Sabbath day. Quite the contrary: “Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. “The Day of the Lord” (dies Dominica) was chosen, not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power. The day of resurrection, the day of Pentecost, fifty days later, came on the first day of the week. So this would be the new Sabbath. People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.”—Sentinel, Pastor’s page, Saint Catherine Catholic Church, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995
The second coming of Jesus Christ in the clouds is a not an allegory, it is a soon fulfilling prophecy. It is called the blessed hope in Scripture for a reason.
